Anxiety and Depression Therapy Online in New York
Anxiety and depression often show up in people who look fine from the outside. You get to work, you keep up with friends, you handle what needs handling. Inside, though, there is a steady hum of worry, or a flatness that makes it hard to care about things you used to enjoy.
I’m Scott Whipple, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in New York with over 20 years as a clinician. I work online with adults across New York State who feel stuck with anxiety, low mood or ongoing stress and want something more than coping tips.

What anxiety, depression and stress can look like
These three often travel together. Long stress wears down sleep and energy, anxiety keeps the body on alert, and depression can follow when the system starts to shut down.
- Racing thoughts, worry that is hard to switch off, or sudden waves of panic
- Tight chest, shallow breathing, stomach trouble or tension you carry all day
- Low energy, loss of interest, or feeling numb and far away from your own life
- Trouble sleeping, or sleeping a lot and still feeling tired
- Feeling disconnected or dissatisfied even when things look fine on paper
How I work with anxiety and depression
My approach is interactive and integrative. We talk, and I offer support and practical feedback on what is happening now. I also pay close attention to what is happening in your body as we talk, because anxiety and depression are physical states as much as thoughts.
Rather than staying only in conversation or insight, I help you notice and shift what is going on in real time. Depending on what fits, that can include somatic awareness drawn from Somatic Experiencing, mindfulness, clinical hypnosis and EMDR therapy. We build on the strengths you already have, and we look at both the current problem and the longer patterns underneath it.
For stress management, we work on spotting the early signs that your system is overloaded and settling it before it tips into anxiety or shutdown.
Sessions online for adults in New York
All sessions are by video, so you can meet from home or any private space in New York State. I work from Lyndhurst, Ohio, and see clients by video under my New York license.
In our first session we get to know each other. I’ll ask about some of your history and what brings you in now, and we set goals together. If you’d like to start, request an appointment or call (917) 570-0053.
Questions about anxiety & depression
Can therapy help with anxiety without medication?
For many people, yes. Therapy works on the patterns, triggers and body responses that keep anxiety going, and it teaches skills you can use on your own. Medication treats symptoms, while therapy explores where they come from. Sometimes both are needed. If you are considering medication, talk with a physician or psychiatric prescriber.
What is the difference between stress and anxiety?
Stress is usually a response to something specific, like a heavy workload or a hard situation, and it tends to ease when that pressure lifts. Anxiety can stay after the stressor is gone, or show up without a clear cause. The two overlap a lot, and long-term stress often turns into ongoing anxiety or low mood.
Is online therapy effective for depression?
Video therapy has been studied for depression and anxiety, and many people find it works as well for them as meeting in an office. It also removes travel time, which matters when energy is low. The body-based parts of my work, like noticing sensations and breathing, translate well to video sessions.
Do you take insurance for anxiety and depression therapy?
Fees, insurance and payment details are on the Rates page, and you can ask about your plan when you request an appointment.
