Somatic Experiencing Online in New York
Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a body-based approach to trauma and stress. It works with the nervous system directly, through sensation and small shifts in attention, instead of relying only on talking about what happened. I’m a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP) and have served as a teaching assistant for the Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute.
I offer SE online in two ways: personal sessions for adults in New York State, and personal sessions and consultation for SE students at every level of training.

What SE sessions are like
In an SE session we slow things down. I’ll ask what you notice in your body, where you feel tension, heat, heaviness or ease, and we follow those sensations in small steps. The aim is to let stress responses that got stuck, such as bracing, freezing or a racing heart, move through and settle.
We move back and forth between what feels hard and what feels steady, so your system isn’t overwhelmed. Change tends to be gradual and shows up in daily life: how quickly you calm down after stress, how you sleep, how present you feel with other people.
Who SE can help
SE fits people who have done a lot of talk therapy and understand their patterns, but still feel them in the body.
- Trauma and PTSD, including events you can’t clearly remember
- Anxiety, panic and ongoing stress
- Feeling numb, shut down or cut off from your body
- Dissociation
- Reactions that seem bigger than the situation in front of you
Personal sessions and consultation for SE students
SE training includes personal sessions and case consultation. I offer both, by video, for students at all levels of training.
Personal sessions give you direct experience of the work from the client’s side, and a chance to work on your own material. Individual consultations focus on your cases, your tracking and your use of SE skills. Group consultations add the chance to learn from other students’ cases. Check with your training program about how sessions and consultation hours count toward your requirements.
How I work and sessions online
SE is one part of my integrative practice. With clients I may also bring in EMDR, clinical hypnosis or mindfulness, depending on what helps. I build on the strengths you already have and keep the work grounded in the problems you want to change.
Sessions are by secure video for adults located in New York State. Online, we track breath, posture and sensation together on screen, and you learn to notice these signals in your own home. To start, request an appointment or call (917) 570-0053.
Questions about somatic experiencing
What is Somatic Experiencing therapy?
Somatic Experiencing is a body-oriented approach to trauma and stress developed by Dr. Peter Levine. It works with physical sensations and the nervous system’s survival responses, helping reactions such as fight, flight and freeze complete and settle. It moves in small, paced steps and doesn’t require retelling a traumatic event in detail.
Can Somatic Experiencing be done online?
Yes. SE relies on noticing sensation, breath, posture and movement, which we can track together by video. I guide your attention and watch for changes as we go. Many people find it helpful to learn these skills in their own space, where they will use them from day to day.
What does SEP mean?
SEP stands for Somatic Experiencing Practitioner. It means the clinician has completed the multi-year SE professional training, including coursework, personal sessions and case consultation. I’m an SEP, and I have also served as a teaching assistant for the Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute.
Do you offer consultation for SE students?
Yes. I offer personal sessions plus individual and group consultations for students at all levels of SE training, by video. Check with your training program about how these hours count toward your requirements, and get in touch to ask about current availability and group openings.
